I'll critique your photo, but I can't really critique your technique because I don't know if it was shot in program mode or manual if its program mode I can't really tell you anything different. If it was shot in manual I would have lowered the shutter to 1/60th to get the extra light needed and lower the ISO to 100. As for the photo I like it, the exposure seems a tad over, as you can see you lost a lot of detail in the pants and shoes. As you did mention the crop is too tight, and it is, you would get a better feel if it wasn't as tightly cropped cause it feels cramped just by looking it at. As for the space between her head and the top of the frame seems okay to me but the sides is just too tight for my taste. Colors is a bit tricky here, you got a dark blue shirt with a very light blue jeans and white shoes. The shirt feels a bit under exposed and as for the pants/shoes feels a bit overexposed. Play around with post and see what you can do by getting some detail back in all of those pieces. The model is very attractive so I hope you get a chance to work with her as much as you can cause she's that good or have a ton of potential of being a pro model.

I'm with you Bruce.. my first thought was.. "wow, love color tones, hot chick, too tight crop.. ooooh, cool screen... " and stayed there for a while when I should have been looking at the hottie.. uh, I mean nice photo.
All-in-all it's a nice shot. Would have really liked more space to the right of her (maybe landscape mode?). Love the soft color tones. Use of available light is nicely done though her eyes are a bit black (ie no catchlight). Pose seems a bit forced.. unrelaxed, especially in the arched back. Face is fine. I like the neutral look. In the end, be happy with it, it's a fine image.. Maybe use the new features in PS CS5 (if you have access to it) to extend the frame to the right some to the point it's a square crop? |

I found the screen a bit distracting. It's possible this is because I was scrolling through posts in Google Reader, so the very first thing I saw as the image scrolled up was the screen. I thought it was some sort of PP effect until I saw the whole image.
Having looked at the whole image a few times now, though, I'm still not sure I'm thrilled about the screen. It just seems to draw my eyes away from the subject. Other than that, though, I think it's a solid image. I agree with Chris about the jeans - they seem to have lost a little bit of detail. |

Hey,
Thanks a lot people for your honest thoughts about the photo. I will re-edit it tonite and hopefully post the reworked picture again. I'd agree with the crop, screen and the details of the clothes. I do have CS5 but I dont really know how to extend the frame. Would be lovely if you could give me some hints Big Fuzzy. ![]() Thanks a lot again. |
