Default In built flash issue!

Canon 50D
ISO 400
f/4
1/60

This shot was taken spur of the moment, of my friends daughter. I used the inbuilt flash because it's all I have.

Is it really to blown out? anything else I can PP to fix it?

It does not look blown out. It is a perfectly good snapshot...and she's super cute! There are some compositional things that could be better but this was a quick snap, no posing , background, lights, and all that...

OMG that is one cutiepie!!!

I agree the exposure does not look blown out. But because the flash is so close to the subject there is a hot spot.

I suggest you first clean up the background a bit. May be mask her out and desaturate the background a little. Eliminate the window light at the top of her head and left side cheek. Only then would I look at adjusting levels. You may not need to after doing the above items.

I would suggest possibly to crop in the sides a bit. This would make her blue eyes the point of attraction.

I would avoid using built-in camera flash as much as possible when shooting people, it just gives the feel of point-and-shoot photography that the general public mostly shoots in, so in other words snapshot feel photos. I highly recommend try investing into a external flash and if you know you can't afford it I recommend 3rd party cheaper external flashes thats around $60-$80 like YN560. Or if you're doing studio shots I'd look into monolights with a lightstand which isn't expensive. I got a monolight for about $50 for 160w which is good enough for one subject in a studio and doing low key lighting.

Thanks for the comments. She is a cutie! I had no idea that there were other options for flashes that were cheaper. I have now done some research on them thanks to your comment Chris. And I've got my hubbie onto the monolights for me. Many thanks for your critique.

Default Pretty Flash

Hey there - nothing wrong with that exposure. She's a real cutie.
The only suggestion I'd make is maybe darken the distracting light above her head so it doesn't lead your eye away from those gorgeous eyes!
