Default First Photo for Critique...

What works, what doesn't? I know...that's not specific but I like this photo and I'm not sure if it's because he has such an interesting face or if I did something "right." This is taken without flash in a woodworkers' shop.

Camera Nikon D300
Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture f/1.8

Nice shot. It looks a little cool though, so you might want to go to levels and pick the red channel and slide the right triangle slider over toward the left until it just hits the histogram on that side. I also cloned out the two orbs on the right side..they're just a distraction. I also slightly burned in the bright side of the gentleman's face, but not too much.

i like the shot. i really like the dof. what are the two orbs on the right side? is that on your lense? hope its not on your sensor. more intense cleaning if so.

The orbs were bokeh from nail holes in the metal building.
Here is my attempt at your suggestions, autofocus. :

I really like this shot. The second version is much better. It makes me want to have a conversation with the man.
