Default Video Portrait

Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum. I only recently bought my Nikon D3100, and I have not been able to let go of it! I can't believe how much the entire aspect of photography has captured by attention... and then I found this gem of a site.

So this is the first photo I have really played around with.

Video portrait

EXIF:
Camera Nikon D3100
Exposure 0.001 sec (1/800)
Aperture f/4.5
Focal Length 78 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
Lens 55.0-300.0 mm f/4.5-5.6

I shot this photo of a camera man of some outdoor even I was at earlier today. Editing was done with Lightroom 3 (which I am also new to, so it's very haphazard) and it's very cropped (original shot was with him and camera in full) but I liked the close up once I started editing it.

So please, let me have it... is it too over done post shooting? Is it too cropped? Too obvious?

Any advice would be great, I'm keen on learning more and more

Dacho

I like the lighting and subject. But I wish more of the camera was in view so you could tell what he was doing. Right now the little bit of camera you have is kind of distracting. You said you cropped it a bunch, how will it look if you bring the crop out a bit?

Nice bnw and I like the lights & shadows.. The focus is just great, and you captured the intense expression very nicely. I'd say this portrait is quite good. My only dislike would be the dark top right corner. It IS distracting... as I find my eyes drawn to that area at first glance.

Either pull back and get more of the camera or clone it out (top and bottom right). I think (like wal) I'd prefer cloning it out with this crop. If so, you'll have a fine b&w portrait.

Thanks for the replies guys...

I wasn't sure about the little black bits of camera either. I've played around and taken them out. Looks better I think.
