Im no pro or anything so it looks good to me! but the only thing that bugs me is that one of her hands and a foot is cut off. The other thing is that the picture seems off somehow, I think its the girls pose or the angle you'r shooting at that makes the picture seem a bit tilted to the side.. otherwise thats a beutiful girl, keep shooting her

Thanks! Oh, and she is my step-daughter. Most of my practice shoots are with her.

I have been fortunate to work with a few great models that last couple of months. However, I am assisting photography students, so my job is to help them and only take photos when the students are not. It has been great practice, and I know how difficult it can be to get that great shot when you are pressed for time.
I think the photo is a great start, but I'll let you know what I think needs work. 1)Already pointed out is the hand and foot being chopped off. Make sure you get everything in the frame. It is better to be safe and have to crop just a little bit than chop off body parts and not be able to do anything about it. 2) How were you positioned for the shot? Were you stranding straight up, or were you a bit lower? I think the shot could have benefited from you getting lower. 3) The black of her dress blends into the background, as do the shoes. I think you could have lowered your aperture to expose for the background a bit better, but I am not sure what the ambient lighting was like there. A second flash would have been great to lighten the floor and background behind her because as is, the lower half of the image is just way to dark back there. |

Good thing I read all the comments before writing because I agree fully with ElCapitan.
The big thing for me was the darkness of the bottom half and your positioning.. getting lower or higher really changes an image. Try it out. |

The biggest thing to me is the overall feel.
This pose is crying to be taken from lower and wider.

I agree with Bigfuzzy and Elcapitan. If this shoot was to sell the skirt and shoes, then they are way too dark.

One thing to bear i mind when using the Orbis is that it's a pretty small light surce, and not overly powerful. It's hard to get the really unique effects from using it unless you're closer than you appear to be in this shot...
Secondly, I'm not a fan of the pose. It has that "I'm doing the walk of shame after a big night out and I"m in need of a garbage can to throw up in" look to it... the PP'd version is better, but again, to make this work (aside from a more flattering pose) you really needed to get a rim light in that elevator car... i do like the vibrance you brought out in the walls of the lift however. |
