Default Emily Bikini

Here is Emily at the beach.
I really wanted to get some good swimsuit shots, but we missed the sunset by about 15-20 minutes. Maybe next time... this was part of my first swimsuit shoot. the lighting was bad and i was using someones Canon with a crappy kit lens... so no help when my lowest fstop at 55mm is 5.6...

Camera: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi
Shutter Speed: 0.5 sec
Exposure program: Aperture priority
F-Stop: f/5.6
ISO speed rating: 800
focal length: 49.0 mm

Along with the things you already mentioned, I'm not too crazy about the pose, it's not that flattering in my opinion.

yeah i agree, needless to say this was the most in-focus image i could get at twilight... Better luck next time. I liked some of her other poses better, but this is all i could get.

well dont let limited gears from taking good images....i have worked with kit lens and they do the same job as expensive zooms or primes....nice try though maybe work on the pose next time and i suggest maybe boost a little your iso if there was not much lite and slow down the opening next time to get more ambient light maybe...i'm no pro and just keep on practicing

what do you mean by slow down the opening? I would have used a flash on the rear curtain but this camera won't let me decide that. I think it just is not a very good camera. Also, this was taken on a tripod... I was pulling everything I could out of my hat, but this was the sharpest photo. here are some of the other poses, but not in focus enough. this lens only let me go down to 5.6 if i had a 50mm 1.4 i could have gotten something decent even though the sun had already been down for 15 minutes.

One part of my philosophy that i learned from the person who inspired me to go into photography was "the camera doesn't make the photographer, but the photographer is the person in charge of the camera". "Work with what you have, and stop wishing you had other gear."

The poses could be improved, try to create a fun atmosphere of conversation next time to get her relaxed. she looks like she is not relaxing in the shots. Look around the website and see different compositions of poses offered by pros.

Good luck next time

You don't need a tripod in my opinion, not for this type of shooting. Releasing yourself from the confines of the tripod will allow you to move about freely and maybe take some more interesting shots.

While in general I'd agree that beach photos don't need a tripod, these were taken at ISO 800 and 0.5 second exposure. For blue hour photos, you often really do need to use a tripod.

In addition to what was said above, this is a nitpicky critique, but in the original picture above, the position of her hair appears right in front of her mouth and looks as though she is eating her hair-- sort of distracting when you focus on her open mouth.

Yeah, you're going to need to try again. That half-second shutter speed is way too slow. Even with IS. Your images are also very blue, so you might want to check your white balance.

Thanks for posting though, and keep shooting to keep improving!
