Default 2 kids on the beach...

Hi All,
I took this shot when we were at a beach last month, and converted it to black and white. This is my first post in the People section as I very seldom take pictures of people. Would like to know what you think about the composition and the totality of the picture being in black and white.
captured using NikonD3100 + 18-55mm VR kit lens
DSC_0220 (signed) (Small).jpg
EXIF data
Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec
F-number: F/9
ISO: 100

**admins sorry if this was my 2nd post on the critique section, I initially thought that the restriction was 1 post per section, now I just realized that it may be 1 post for the critique section across all subsections. I'm really sorry, feel free to delete this post if necessary. thanks

Firstly, I am not an expert but here are my 2 cents. The picture seems to be little underexposed. I would have liked the orientation of the picture to be landscape to get more of the sand and the beach. Lastly, I guess if you would have taken the picture sitting or on the same level as the kids, the impact would have been better. This is just my opinion, I may be wrong. I will wait for the experts to comment.

Ok, I'm no expert so keep waiting for them

I think the image would have had more impact if you were to have taken it from the other side of the kid on his knees. That way you could have both faces in the picture. Maybe this wasn't possible, but always keep the angle in mind when composing.

thanks for the replies. I might have called this a candid shot really, not sure, but maybe I should have tried taking from the other angle. problem here is that the kids are continuously moving on the beach searching for minicrabs (crablets). If we say that this is a candid shot, can your views about the composition change?
