Please help!!

I just got done taking this picture and I'm trying to edit it now but I can't seem to get the background darker without it looking weird. Can anyone help me with this?

Camera: Cannon Rebel XTI
Lens: Cannon EF 28-138mm
Exposure: 1/200
Aperture: f5.6
Focal Length: 135.0 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Why would you want to? Just curious, as I like it as it is. Actually, I'd rather see it in a crisp B&W, but still...

I took a shot at it. I used a cooling filter to make the background blue like the sky and then just masked to not apply it to the girl. I also lightened up her eye a bit.... which I think I took a wee bit too far but I like bright eyes

Well I just thought that it being so bright wasn't good. I darkened it a little but I didn't think that it looked right.

Would it be better in b&w?

Make a B&W version, compare it to the color one, and just decide which one looks better.

I guess I'm just weird with the whole lighting thing lol
