Default Pouty-faced

Hi all - snapped a quick one of someone who tends to avoid the camera...even better because of the expression on her face. Any comments would be appreciated, but critiques as to the framing/composition would be most appreciated.

As always, click through to Flickr for more, where all comments/critiques are welcome.

Nicely done. Angst ridden teenager face well captured. She is very pretty and you should keep that photo in reserve for when she brings over the one...

A nice and somewhat moody looking photo... but what's in her hands?

I think the fact she is looking at her hands means its a bad move to crop them out. Our eyes will always start to follow where someone's are in a pic if they are looking at or towards something, and if that "something" is partially in view then we need to see what it is.

I'd crop it to remove any trace of her hands, but ideally in future leave her hands in the original shot, and if there's nothing interesting in them, then maybe place something there to add context to the pic.

Obviously not as easy as I make it sound if they aren't too happy about posing and you have to just quickly snap them

I think If you crop out the hands totally, she would look contemplative, instead of like she's texting. Other than that I really like the composition and treatment... and the freckles. The composition reminds me of in a book(I'd have to find which book) where they overlaid the fibonacci spiral on a profile portrait- very similar to how you have composed this.

Edit: Found the book Digital Photography Masterclass by Tom Ang. He discussed it as golden spiral and golden section.
