She is almost sharp and he is very soft in the eyes. Even though you had a low angle sun it was still harsh and not diffused so you have gotten hard shadow lines. If you could have waited till the sun had just a minute to set you would have gotten better light.

New to photography and I just started reading about light and shadows.I appreciate your comment. Any way of fixing this through photoshop program.Would not know how to start and what to tweek. I like the intensity in my daughter's eyes.... We were taking pics for about and hour in different locations and that evening it was very cold( it was one of my last shots as I think the eyes were saying" this is the last shot mom" Also for evening shots when is the best time to take photos?

I dont think the shadows are too harsh myself. It is too warm for my tastes though.
I brought the image in to GIMP, made a duplicate layer, and ran the zone adjustment script. It will render truer blacks and whites. I duplicated the layer and changed the mode to multiply and added a layer mask. I grabbed a soft brush to paint the couple back in. I made an exlusion layer using a dark blue and reduced the opacity to about 18%. This is just a preference for me. I like shadows to have a hint of blue. I only worked on the preview image you had here. I didn't realize you had a link to a larger size, so it's still a little soft, but you get the idea. I think overall, it's a nice shot. The composition is very pleasing to me. The negative space doesn't compete with the couple, which can sometimes be the case when you have people looking in a different direction than the negative. |

I like the shot too. A little too warm for my personal taste but as said earlier, the WB would fix that. I don't mind the lighting at all. I like the shadows on her dress, it adds intrest.
And I would have liked to see the very bottom of her dress. It's a good location, and I like the comp. Last edited by Stephanie C; 07-10-2011 at 06:37 AM. |
