Default 9 day old baby....what do you think?

A friend of mine just had a baby and I was over helping her and of course I could not leave without taking at least one shot so here is one of my favorites

What do you think? Is there anything I should change?

I love the shot but I do think the eyes are too dark. Other than that, its really great. Maybe a light on the face would fix that?

Default Beauty is in the eyes

I agree with those that made comments about the eyes. Typically the eyes are what draw us into a portrait and we don't get that with this image. I like the lighting though. Just my $.02.

I have a newborn as of 6/22 and have been sticking the camera in his face since then. I have a couple shots of him at Kellyman Photography

Thanks for the advise everyone! That was kinda what I thought but I wasn't real sure and I kinda need to figure out how to lighten his eyes up since I'm kinda new with photography and still learning

Just place the baby near a window, at a slight angle so the light isn't flat. When you see light reflected in his/her eyes and a small shadow under the nose, then you've got the light right. Always look for light in the eyes before you press the shutter. You can't post-process light in where it wasn't to begin with.

Thanks Susan! I had literally 5 minutes to take these pictures. I know that's no excuse but when I am new to photography and the baby is supposed to be sleeping and will not hold still its hard for me to think of everything... I know your probably thinking LAME

LOL...tell your friend that you want to practice more and set up a visit where you can take as much time as you need. Look at the work of newborn photographers and get some inspiration for poses, both awake and asleep.
