Hey all! For this shoot, I was trying to somewhat mimic the photo styling of celebrity/fashion photographer Terry Richardson. His styling includes a very 'raw' look with straight-on lighting and little-to-no post-processing. Here's his shot of Justin Bieber for example:
![]() You can use Google image for a better idea ![]() Here are my shots (of my sister) from today: ![]() 7.5.11 by Stefan Faison, on Flickr Olympus E-520 14-42mm ISO 800 / 34mm f/3.5 1/125 sec. I'm looking for critiques on lighting, composition and my overall idea. I wasn't trying to copy him exactly, but this shoot was influenced by him. Last edited by fais54; 07-06-2011 at 07:27 AM. |

I like yours better actually. The 4th picture I agree with the hair across her face as a stand alone image, but think it works as part of the overall collage in capturing different moods.

The lighting is pretty boring.......go to strobist.com. There you'll earn the benefits of using creative lighting.

Thanks for the link...I've been having trouble with lighting, so I'm sure that'll help out. But, for this particular shoot, it was influenced by the lighting technique of Terry Richardson. I tried my best to get that 'look', with my own little twist. For example:
I'm aware it's important to have your own style, but I'm a big fan of his work. Last edited by fais54; 07-06-2011 at 09:12 PM. |

It's pretty apparent that the lighting was pretty straight on which we typically tend to stay away from as that was part of your goal, I think it was executed very well. I get what you were going for and I think that says a lot.
I agree that we should all develop our own style but I also think that to do so, we need to try out some of what others have done mix it all up and from that we can choose our own path.

I enjoy his work because he doesn't necessarily follow the 'rules' and, in the end, he's crafted his own unique look. Thanks for the critique!
