Default Autoprotrait with flash

Hi all,

Here is a picture of myself I took on a canoe trip on the French River in Ontario, Canada.
I used off camera flash with a soft box (litedome XS), at ~45 Degres angle, on the left of the frame.

In Lightroom: some adjustement + I had to remove some distant but visible power lines in the background (in the orange area).

I found it to be dark on my screen at work, however fine on my screen at home.

Any feedback is more than welcome,

It does look too dark on my calibrated monitor. The background looks great. I would just lighten yourself up with a mask in photoshop. Or more flash next time.

It is a tad bit dark to me. But, besides that it's a great shot. Nice scenery!

Thanks for the feedback,
I will try to lighten up a bit once I have time.

Any other CC are welcome.

Checked your flickr and the large size is pretty good as far as lighting goes. I think what we are seeing here is an effect of the downsizing to 700 pixel causing a darkening of the facial features.

Edited to add just a touch of brightness to your face and arms.

Great expression. I always look troubled or goofy when I try to do a self portrait. Any tips on how to get a more natural look?

Great ambient light exposure. One could say that face is slightly underexposed (you could have gone for same exposure level as distant light). I prefer to think that you were reaching for the same exposure as the tree on the right.

I used to dislike being in a picture with a fake smile.
At one point, I forced myself to smile as frankly as I could, almost laughing. Overtime I got used to smile in a correct way for pictures.

Thanks for the feedback,

I ended up adding some brightness and exposure to the face and arms.

I hope I didn't add to much grain ...
