Default Autumn in the Summer

Autumn by tmshott, on Flickr

Canon EOS Rebel T1i
ISO 800
Focal Length 84mm
f/8.0
1/250

I took this shot at a park near home. I edited it with lightroom, which I used for the first time today. I'd like comments on composition, lighting, use of the lightroom stuff I used. I edited contrast, sharpness, saturation and all kinds of stuff just messing around with the program. Probably got a little carried away.

Thanks for looking!

A few things that I noticed are the blue thing in her had that she is pointing with...kinda stood out to me, and Im Not sure what it is. It would be better cropped using the rule of thirds, as she is dead center, and the color is a litte cool for my liking...some parts of her hair actually look blue. Also the vignette is a bit too dark for my taste, but it may work for others.

Totally agree what slugger said.
The grass looks too saturated and unnatural.Im pretty sure the shirt, and the tiny cup and plates are supposed to be white, they kinda look blue on my skreen.also I think it would look better brightened up and defenetly without such a strong vignette. And its never a good idea to cut off elbows. Other than that cute shot

Hi, Shooty

You have a nice idea and concept upon shooting this image but not properly executed.

Upon looking at your EXIF, you use an ISO of 800 which leads to noiseness of the image, any purpose of using that?

Aperture setting of f8, will make everything in focus, usually in portrait they tend to blurred the background to stay focus in the image and for me it appears so busy, no resting point.

In my honest opinion, your post processing is overly done (but it's up to your taste) in the following reasons:

Your white balance is just like you shot in flourescent, the white appear as blue and very obvious on her dress, tea cup and the white lights also turned to blue, if you shoot in RAW, you call pull it a warmer tones, to have white as white.

There is to much black, try to slide the slider in a lighter shadows.

In this, I suggest to apply very soft vignette.

You frames the subject on the deadly center that make it less interesting.

If I got home early today, I will try to edit this one to show you what can be done.

Hope it helps

Thank you everyone for the critiques. I'm still learning and your honest opinions and tips on improving are a great help, I truly appreciate it! I'm going to take another crack at editing this shot with your tips in mind.

Edit: Here is my attempt at re-doing the editing with your tips in mind.

Yeah, nice job on the second time around. The white balance is much better. Also, don't be afraid to use a vignette for a shot like this. It was probably a little over the top on the first one, but I think it has it's place here.

In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where you shoot.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, here is my attempt at being less overzealous with the vignette. Have I over done it again?
