First of all - sharpness. Looks very crisp around the eyes and glasses and love the fact you get a catch light without highlights on the frames or reflections in the glass.
Composition - not a big fan of the placement of the background trees positioning and setting sun - I think they act against each other and take the focus away from such a well exposed subject. |

I checked the "big one" on Flikr and i must say that it's as sharp as can be.
Beautiful lighting and great catchlight in the eyes. The only thing that bothers me is that sunset that looks like a flame coming out of his head. ![]() Maybe it's me but I find it very distracting. Just a few steps on the right or left would have prevented that. Otherwise, a great pic. Way to go !

hey scott.. congrats on the new lens... looks sharp as a tack... i like the lighting...
as for composition.. well... honestly, it's a head shot... maybe if he do something interesting than just looking at the camera... you know... oh well.. for a lens test shot, it's doable...

Sharp lens, indeed. Good exposure. I'd echo the "few steps" comment, as I would have liked to not see the sunset flare next to his head.
What's he lit with? Not the sun, obviously, but there's some strong light source off to your left.

My only complaint is that I opened the thread thinking it would be something military and gory..
![]() Sorry.. couldn't resist, I'm in work mode. Looks sharp enough for me. Other commentary from me irrelevant as you weren't shooting this image with other things in mind. |
