Default Unhappy 'Stop Harper' Protester

This is a photo I took of a 'Stop Harper' (our prime-minister) protester in Ottawa, Canada a couple weeks ago during the Conservative National Convention. She grabbed the microphone and made clear that she was not okay with anyone threatening to take away her right to love and marry whomever she wants.

I am a novice photographer, just received a DSLR camera as a gift a couple months ago. I am trying to learn as much as I can but I figure I need critique. I do have lightroom and this is a slight crop of the original which showed too much background I thought. Please offer and critique and suggestions that I can do to improve my photo within Lightroom and my technique.

Strong focus on her eyes, this is a raw emotional moment...I wish I could see more of her (hands at least). It's probably a little too tight to tell the whole story (I know you cropped background, was there more foreground?)

Definitely a piece of photojournalism, has me asking questions about her story!
