Default BW portrait - young couple

This is one of my favourite photos from a recent shoot. I know that I have a lot to learn, and although I really liked this photo, I am sure that there is a lot that I can do differently next time to improve it.

Exif:
Camera - Canon 450D
Focal Length - 200mm
Apeture - F6.3
Exposure - 1/250

I did some cropping, levels and the BW conversion in PS.

Specifically, what do you think of the BW conversion?

And, is it a problem that neither of the subjects are looking into the camera?

Any other CC is always welcome

I like this! The crop is a tad tight, but not bad. I love your BW conversion - there are a few hot spots but that most likely can be fixed.

You caught a great moment - lots of emotion and genuine feeling. Well done!

I agree with Susan. I'd rather a BW have too much contrast than not enough. The fact that they aren't looking at the camera is perfect for me. It gives me the impression they are sharing a moment instead of mugging for the lens.

I love it too. Your name is perfect for this image

Personally it is a little too high in contrast for me. It is a tender moment and imo suited to a softer conversion.

Thanks for all the comments!

@Susan, thanks for pointing out the hotspots, I think that I was in an editing frenzy at the time will try to sort those out

@Nicola, I will definitely spend some time working on reducing the contrast a little...
