Art, I think the compostion is fine, but if you don't mind some extra critique, I feel the polizzia on their horses would have popped better had the background been more out of focus. If you have the software you could try a guassian blur layer and paint the horses and riders and road back in. Nice job of keeping the main points in frame.

Since you're asking about composition I'll stick to that.

To me, the composition is pretty standard "subject in the middle" which, to me, is pretty boring. It comes off as a standard travel snap shot because of it.

I would suggest leaving more space to the left which is the direction your subjects are moving. The nose of the horse is almost touching edge of frame. Also, the legs, to me, are awkwardly cropped. I'd have rather seen the whole of the horse.

Lastly, always think of the background before even putting the camera to your eyes. You could have seen, before even lifting the camera, that the background is very busy which will almost always detract from your subject, especially when you're unable to get a shallower depth of field.
I would avoid using the "blur the background" technique in PS unless you're really good at it as I feel that fake background blurrring, unless you're really good at it, makes the image look even worse and more amateurish. But that's just my taste/opinion.

Ciao!
Al
