Default Photographing a photographer

Hi.

I was talking to a friend of mine about something I had found out on his camera (focus assits for MF) and he had a play, I subsequently took his shot.

It wasn't much of one so I converted to B&W and made it high contrast.

Opinions? should I have cropped to include more of his head? Or less? Should it have been portrait? Poor background aside, how is the general composition?

Thanks.

I actually like the composition in general. I like how you gave him some "room to look into" on the right. I also like this in landscape orientation; however, it might have been improved if you'd taken a step or two back so his hand wasn't cut off at the wrist. I don't mind the head chop (I'm a chronic headchopper, lol); if anything, I'd crop it just a tad tighter so it looks more intentional and doesn't have the Frankenhead look.

The BW conversion is good except for a blown highlights. Not sure if this happened in-camera or during post processing. If you shot in RAW, this can easily be taken care of. It's really a nitpick though.

Well done, for the most part. I quite like it.

Hi.

Thanks. It's already cropped in, the original image was in portrait I think.

I blew out the highlights and darkened the lows in an attempt to make it a little more dramatic. I'll try it the way you said and see what I come up with.
