Default Self portrait :)

Heya guys!!
I"ve been following this forum for a while and I learned a big deal here
I was not sure to become a member because I don't really have a good camera.
It's a Canon Ixus 860 IS, and you really can't do anything with it...
you can't really adjust the settings, except for iso..
But then I realized that I could learn a lot about pictrure-composition and colours and stuff.
Any critics are really welcome

I'm especially interested in Portrait-photography and saving for a Canon eos 550 D..
I had once the chance to hold it i my hands, and i fell in love with it..

so here's the picture...

First of all, the best way to learn is to start with what you've got and go from there. Keep learning with your point and shoot, and you'll be ready for that 550D by the time you've got the money saved up.

Your image here seems a little soft, meaning it's blurry because you were hand holding the camera when it was set for a longer shutter time (slower than 1/50 or so). If you can't control the shutter speed, I would either look for a brighter place to shoot (while avoiding direct sunlight) or put your camera on something stable and use the timer function.

Keep practicing, you'll get there!

hmmm, that's funny. Because I did set the camera on a stand...
It was a music stand, but the time for shooting was 10sec, so it stood still the moment I shot the picture...
Are there other reasons why It could be blurry? Maybe my hair just moved, or is it the whole picture that is blurry?
Maybe it is handy to look the records of the picture up:

Make:Canon
Model:Canon IXY DIGITAL 910 IS
Shutter Speed:1/4 second
Aperture:F/4.0
Focal Length:9 mm
ISO Speed:200
Date Taken:Jun 12, 2011, 10:50:00 PM

There's your problem with focus, right there. Your camera may have been still, but even the tiniest movement from you would throw the image out of focus.

The light is good here, though. Keep shooting and posting.

A more advanced camera will increase probability of getting the right shot. But it will not make anybody a great photog. I have gone all this way from a tiny instamatic to a pretty expensive DSLR, leaving “less good” equipment to my son…. who prefers to walk around with an iPhone and continuously churns out images that are disturbingly more creative than anything I come up with… Having looked at his shots, I abstain from any critique… So just carry on!
