Default Wife & Kids (for critique)

Hi folks,

Just started posting here (not even sure if this is my first post..). Been using the site for a while, mainly the newsletter as I like the tips etc. Good food for throught. Anyway, a few people recommended the site to me for getting critique. I'm self taught for about 18m now and while I use sites like flickr, I get tired of the "Nice shot" comments. I can't improve with that kind of feedback. I know I'm an amature and have a hell of a long way to go so look for critique to improve.

This shot was taken in my house. My eldest 3 y/o Sam. I usually take candid shots of him as he is your typical bouncy kid and getting him to stand still and have a neutral expression is tricky! Great fun though. I took this image near a window to use the diffused natural light.

I use lightroom to briefly edit the image, something else I'm rapidly trying to learn about. All I've really done here is crop the image and drop the clarity slightly. Also adjust the tone curve.

Thanks for taking time to look,

Cheers.

Edit : Sorry I had posted 4 images at once THEN read the forum rules. Typical of me! Editted back to one and added Exif info.

I love the lighting on this shot. I like the framing and the profile view. You have nailed the rainy day mood, but the leaning wall/window sill is a distraction. Very nice work all the same.

Oh I think you have well and truly elevated yourself from armature status to amateur.

Thanks both. Yeah shame about that leaning wall. I suppose with the shallow DoF your eye is drawn to the face. But I maybe should ahve straightened it in the crop so he'd have been looked at more of an angle.

@Andy, yeah made it at last. Needed a forum that had more interaction. Flickr is ok but you don't get many constructive comments. Especially on the technical side.
