Default Walk Through A Historic Town

I took this picture when I went on a walk through a historic town with a couple friends. I'm not sure if I should have focused on my friends in the picture instead of the bridge, but for some reason I feel like that adds something to the picture. If I were to repeat this shot, should I have focused on the people in the shot? What else could be improved with this picture?

My focal point is pulled towards the X beams on the bridge, and it seems you focused on the trees.

It may have had a better effect at larger aperture; the focus isn't select enough for me in this image, to where the composition doesn't quite look intentional.

Thank you teenuh and slugger for your input. Slugger, the composition was actually not intentional, as most of the pictures I get aren't intentional.

How could I edit this picture to make it better?
