Default My first ever post in here, how could this have been better?

Hiya,

I am feeling quite brave so thought I would post a picture of my daughter taken at a wedding last week whilst she was preparing to be a flower girl

I couldn't decide whether to post the colour version or the black and white. I have opted for the this one as I have never liked the few black and white conversions I have done in the past (I like this one more) so thought someone might me able to give me some advice on making an effective b & W shot. My monitor is not calibrated so I am not confident on the brightness etc.

I have never shared my photos with anyone other than family or friends but would really like to improve my shots and techniques so any tips and advice about the shot will be gratefully received, (i think )

The picture was taken with my Canon 350D & Canon 50mm 1.8 at f2.2, 1/125 sec, ISO 100 using a tripod.

Hit me with it

Kerry

Your decision to process this in b&w is certainly justified (without even viewing the colour shot). I think it's great from my non-pro pov. There may more well regarded comments to come, but I wouldn't change this for anything. She looks lovely and really pops. Great work!

I think it is really lovely. Nice focus on the lashes, great use of the light and nice dramatic conversion.

The only nit pick - and it is a nit pick, is that it may be worth cloning out the bright patch back right?

Welcome to the form.

You're right NicolaB, I would only change it for that.

thanks for the great feedback, was not expecting that .

With your advice (which I totally agree with) I have removed the light from the chair and also a horrible bright pink light near the make up artists nose/chin. This is the after effect in colour:
