Default B&W too heavy?

I don't normally add multiply, but I went the whole hog this time. Is it too heavy? All cc welcome.

Apologies:
Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)

You need to read the critique section rules and supply EXIF data so folk here can be better informed about your shot.

it's a nice photo but you've cropped it too tight for my taste.
as for the PP, the background is quite dark and I have a feeling the picture had nice colors in it with the grass and her hair bows.
can you post the SOC version?
and please provide the EXIF data...

I like the SOC better. it has it's issues but I like how you composed it.
a few issues:
1. the WB is off, it should be much warmer.
2. you're lacking contrast.
3. it's underexposed.

I've played with it a bit, hope you don't mind.. here is my suggestion:

Hi Nicola, back to your original question. I do not think the conversion is too heavy. In fact, I think you could push the contrast a little more and be fine with it.
As far as the crop. I would leave it tighter myself. The original background is a little distracting for me.
Sorry I am not being harsh. I can't really find anything about it to be harsh about.
I think it is very well done.

I am happy with the composition of the sooc, but if you crop it to a 8x10, then I think you will see where my problem lies, and why I have gone with a tight crop. I am still learning to get them as close as possible in camera, leaving room for all print sizes without loosing limbs but getting the composition right.

I think to get it right without leaving a great deal of crop space is quite a skill (not one I have acquired yet).

WB - does it make any difference to the final outcome to have it closer in camera? I have it set to daylight I think. I changed it in LR and in this instance, which brought the skin tone exposure really close. I then just did a slight curve bump to make them pop.

Contrast - do I not get this with pp or do you mean I didn't find the right angle to the light? I didn't have my reflector and it was tough to get nice definition without loosing the catchlights. More practice needed.

lol thanks Luke. I have tried it with soft light instead, but I prefer this one. I normally go much softer, so I wondered what the general perception is on this. Delighted you like it and I have just heard from my friend and she loves them - wee hee. Fathers day pressie sorted in their house.

I think it is great, it really pops! Much better than the SOC or even the processed color - nice job. BTW what do you mean when you say multiply?

I like the black and white, but I also think the crop is a little tight, but what is really getting to me is the angle of her hand looks so un-natural it makes my wrist hurt and her fingers look like they are gripping her face so tight it hurts.
