Default Does this have the impact I think it does?

I love this as it captures my kids at bedtime. My daughter reading thoughfully and my son goofing around. It's cosy and a bit magical.

But am i imagining that this is all captured in the picture? Do you see it too?

i think so, the lighting could be better. a slave flash or something set very low with a softbox so the shadows aren't so hard.

Bit of light on the left side of your son's face- I think would have made a lot of difference. I agree that a slave flash would have helped but these things can be expensive- a cheap torch would do. It would not affect the impact of the light on your daughter, but just lift the exposure on your son's face IMHO

Default Thanks

Thanks guys - yes I agree now. It depends on the computer screen I use - sometimes it looks darker or lighter. But clearly the left side of his face should be lighter for a better impact.

Tanya, this one looks better.. imo, the light on the left is little harsh and distracting. I would have cropped it and brighten up his face a little. but I like your setting.. You know what, whenever I see my wife reading her emails in the dark room on her IPhone, I feel like setting up my Nikon and shoot the moment - dark background, light just on her face.. very similar to your picture
