Default The New Forest

This was taken in the New Forest in the UK. My daughter was taking macro shots of the flowers with her P&S canon when she spotted a bug in one of the flowers. I took this shot of her looking at the bug. I had just enough time to set the aperture and take the picture.

My questions are could I have chosen a better set-up for this picture and this is the composition straight out of the camera so is there a crop that might work better?? As I'm hear to learn please say if there's anything else you see Thanks

EXIF:

Canon EOS 550d
Tv: 1/80
Av: 5.0
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 45.0mm

I like it mate - cute pick. Since it's a shot you didn't set-up, I dont myself see how you could have made it much better. If you were setting it up, i.e. you had contrived the shot and had time, I'd personally like to see some fill light on your daughter's face to lessen the contrast between the shadow and lit.

Comp wise I think it's pretty good too. The flower makes a nice structure to it and it's on a third line. If anything I would take an little off the top and bottom as this space doesn't do that much. Perhaps post prod you could dodge/burn the background bright green down a bit and make your daughter "pop" a bit more?

Good shot though dude.

Thanks, I appreciate the feed back. It was one of those snaps that you look at on the LCD and think "oh that's not too bad". So I was indeed wondering along the lines of "if 'd been setting this up what could I have done to improve things". Still being new to this sometime I see what needs to be done but often not.

Thanks for the cropping and background suggestions, I'll have to go away and play

try cropping it so that you see just her face and part of her neck, get rid of the rest of her body. You could try that. but then you might cut off part of the plant, so i think its fine the way it is because of that

Thanks 3bayjunkie. Been a bit busy but as soon as I get a chance I'll have a play with the crop see what comes out of it
