Default Outdoor portrait

Here is a portrait I did about a week ago. What are your thoughts on this picture in particular the lighting? Anything I should have done differently? Any tips/ critique will be appreciated.
f 1.8
1/4000
50mm
iso 100

Thanks!

First impression, an arresting image, I like it.

You didn't put camera info, but I'm assuming you used a dslr with a Nifty Fifty. I love my 50mm f/1.8, but open that wide at this distance, it's super easy to get the focus slightly off. Which is why I think the face is slightly soft and the awesome windblown strands of hair are relatively sharp.

Given the bright conditions, the extreme distance between your subject and the sky background, and that you were probably at the limits of your shutter speed, and could have stopped down to 2.2 and brought your subject's face into focus or gone to 2.8 and had the whole subject in focus without any motion blur from the wind whipping the hair.

Either way the lighting's good, props for composition, and a really cool image.

Side note - Asking out of complete ignorance, what's going on with the left (her right) edge of the sunglasses?

I appreciate the feedback... i have a tendency to drift towards the 1.8 (it is a nifty fifty btw) even when i should probably stop it down some more.
I've honestly been wondering the same thing about the sunglasses... could be a weird reflection or a nick in the glasses or something, but I honestly couldn't tell you what it is. Sorry!

Hey,

I like it overall, good use of side light and wind. However, I would suggest for putting reflector or white board to her right to get some details lost in the shadows

I think that a great idea, and given the framing of the shot, she could have held the white card herself, which is kinda cool.

I also have another question - I like the vignetting, did you add that or did it come out of the camera that way?

Cheers,
Josh

Thanks and that is a good idea! I will do that next time. I added the vignetting in post.
