Default Beach/park photoshoot

I shot these pictures Friday at a local park that had a beach. The subject is Brittany- and she let me practice on her. I really enjoyed it.

This is my favorite of all, and below is the link to the whole set.

I would like to critique this shot, but before I do, can you please advice why you took this photo at ISO 400? It seems quite a bit high and I need to understand why you've chosen this.....

Also, what mode did you shoot with? Auto, P-mode, AV, TV or Manual?

I promise to give a more in depth critique as soon as I understand about the choice of ISO....

Cheers,

Grace

You used the sun to your advantage on many of these shots, this one included. You had some lighting/exposure problems when you ran out of that light, though. You can do portraits in natural light, but many times your opportunities (and options) can be limited.

Your composition on most of these are pleasing. You might look into some off-camera lighting to kick your portraiture into high gear.

This shot is alot of fun. Has good composition and I like the light. Checked out your flicker and I like alot of those also. I agree that some are lit better than others. I too am still trying to master making the most of the natural light. Haven't done anything with reflectors or off camera lighting yet. All I can say is good job and keep shooting.

I remember bumping it down to 400 from the 800 I had it at from the night before- but that is all I remember on the actual choice. I was heading into a sunset so I think I was afraid to go down as far as 200 or even 100 for the light we had.

I shot in manual- I try to stay away from anything else unless I am just trying to shoot snapshots.

EOBeav- Thank you- I have considered that- and probably get some later on- but my funds are limited and my wish list is SO long LOL

sheila3- Thank you!

StaphanieS: It is great to understand the camera to the point that you can shoot in manual, but don't think it is the only way you should set your camera. Different situations call for different camera settings. I would say that a majority of the time I am shooting in Aperture Priority. Sometimes to gain a result I will shift to Manual so I can tweek. If I am shooting an active function I will shoot Program alot. So it is good to be comfortable with the camera in any mode and use them for what they were put there for.
