Default Son and Bike

This is a photo that I was able to get while I actually got my son to stay still for long enough for. I would like some critique on composure and anything else of course. I think I know a couple of things that a wrong but I would like to see what everyone else thinks.

I think you have an interesting shot here.

I would like to see it cropped in two ways.

Crop a little off the top - The blowout in the sky is distracting.

Crop from the right - The dark mound and the blurred reed just off center is taking my eye of the subject.

Once those are gone, I really like how the mood is changed.....

Nice job!

Unfortunately, he's way too dark. This happens when your subject is facing away from the light source. Some off camera flash would have helped immensely here.

It's such a lovely shot and what a wonderful vision you had for this image! Love it!!

Sure an off-camera flash would have helped, however, when taking photos of kiddies, you just don't have time to set up things like that. It's a great job, as it is, that you managed to get him to stay still for a few seconds for this shot!

So unfortunate that it was such a cloudy day....I think it's the worse condition to take photos. Some people feel that it's bright, sunny days, but for me, it's cloudy days like this that I don't like.

Yes, he is too underexposed for this shot. But it doesn't mean that it's a lost shot. If you don't mind, I've played around really, really quickly with this photo to show you that this photo is not lost at all, but with a couple of very simple post processing, he'll be exposed. I've attached the edited photo and please let me know if you want it removed.

What I did:

1) Crop the top so that you remove all the unnecessary gray sky and turn the shot into more panoramic;

2) Adjust "levels" so that you can lighten the image (you can do this in photoshop and I believe, Lightroom. I used Aperture for this).

That's it. That's all I did. No saturation done as I didn't think it needed it. Anyhoo, go and play around with this photo yourself and adjust as far as how you want it done! I just wanted to show you that you can fix this really easily so now the photo looks quite different now.

Great eye, OP!

Cheers,

Grace
