Default Young Devotee

Hi All,

This photo was taken at ISKCON temple Vrindavan, India

While walking in the ISKCON temple I saw a group of devotees playing drums and singing bhajans and the centre of attraction was this young boy who was a little shy of camera

I would really appreciate if someone can give me feedback for this photo and some techniques on night photography.

For starters a faster aperture would help. F2.8 or F1.8 would be better suited for low light. Shooting handheld at 1/5 is going to produce a little blur as can be seen in your photo. If new optics are out of your budget then you can play with the ISO settings but beware this will probably add a little noise to the photograph. As a final measure you could use the camera's flash, but I try to avoid this as a bright flash can distract performers (plus I just don't like using a flash).

Agreed with the previous poster. A much higher ISO, wider aperture and faster shutter speed would have worked out a lot better. The white balance is also way off, the color is very orange/yellow.

+1 to that, a prime would work wonderfully in such scenario. Apart from that, you could have probably pushed the ISO by one stop to get a slightly faster shutter speed, but it wouldn't have helped that much.

Composition wise, if you were a little more on the left hand side of the boy, more of his body and face would have become visible. Though that might not have been possible, considering that you were at a temple, likely surrounded by other devotees.

I did not fire flash in some cases when I had chance because of this dramatic yellow light. I don't know but I liked the yellow light but anyways i'll compare photo without yellow and with yellow light to get clear understanding, Thanks anyways

I agree I should have been a little left but this guy was shy of camera or something he kept on running.
