Default Portrait Shot

This is a shot I took while doing an individual photo shoot. I was wanting to know what I could do to improve the shot.

I would have gone iSO200 or 100. But I would have her leaning towards you instead of sitting back

Research butterfly lighting techniques as well as Rembrandt lighting. STOP using the on camera flash for anything other than tripping your off camera flash. See The Strobist. You are working in light so you need to think and use your tools with regard to how the light is reflecting off of your subject. Your composition is pretty good and the technical aspects of camera operation seem good in this photo. She is properly exposed. If she leans in her eyes will look dark and sunken in. Not good.

I would still suggest that her pose isn't good for her. Yes, your lighting is technically correct, but I think its too hot on her face in spots. Only cause if I squint while looking at this photo, her forehead and nose are still a little hot. The light should be bathing the subject, not "lighting" them up.

Decreasing your ISO may help a bit... a quick fix that may or may not help. The best thing would be to use a light modifier (diffuser of some sort) on your flash.

i think you get the feeling with the colour. good job, i love it, i really do, especially you really use the earth colour well with your background.
