Smile Tips please...

I welcome your comments! I took this in a live event, well lighted room.

I'd like input on:
- Focal point?
- Angle? Framing?
- Exposure?
- Aperture?
- What else can be done PP?
- What would you do to improve this photo?

From Drop Box

EXIF: jpg
Camera: Canon
Model: Canon EOS 550D
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/25 sec
Aperture: 1.4
Focal Length: 50mm
Flash Used: No

Thanks

1. You cut off his feet a little too close.
2. The bg is distracting (sometimes you can't control this, I undersatnd).

The main "problem" I suppose would be that anyone, given your camera, would have taken this exact shot. What's special about it? We don't know what's going on and have no context, it's not a particularly exciting piece of the action, and there's a pole or strip of something coming out the top of his head.

Getting a boring photograph technically perfect isn't the idea. You need to start with a good subject and then go for a good photograph.

Event photography can be tough, since its just documenting what happened at the event. The client probably liked having photos like this since it shows what happened.

For this particular instance, I would have caught the subject a little tighter since everything else is kinda distracting. Angle is great cause I like the apposing lines in the background.

Being well lite of a room, you were shooting at 1.4 at Iso400, 1/25. I try to shoot at ISO100 whenever I can so I don't sacrifice details on the sensor.

Given the lighting scenario you were facing, I would try to keep your shutter speed 1/40 or above. You'll remain sharper through and through. I would have gone ISO 800, shot a 2.0 (since that 50mm 1.4 has a sweet spot with that) and have your shutter probably around 1/80.

I try to get images of a speaker looking out at the crowd cause it shows them engaged with the audience.
