Default White Tuxedo!? Help!

So, I know these aren't great. But it's the best I could do given the circumstances, or so I felt. Here's what I had to work with. What do you like about these? What do you dislike? What could I have done to make these pictures better?

Exposure-wise you did a decent job, maintaining detail in both the gown and the tux. As gaudy and Saturday Night Fever as a white tux may be, at the very least you can get an even exposure for both the dress and the suit

the third shot, the flash (is that yours or some observer in the crowd? seems like its coming from someone else off to your right) well, woof. That would be enough for me to toss the shot, or keep it for their eyes only.

Obviously the setting isn't really ideal, but I know you can't really choose what environment you have to work in, so when you're given cheese, you just have to make the best out of it. Closer, more detailed, close and creative-oriented shots are the order of the day... if you have the equipment to take care of it.

You just have to think out of the box when it comes to dealing with ceremonies like this; these 3 feel very bog-standard and flat in terms of the thought put behind the composition. We all provide the traditional shots like this, grandma's demand them, but that doesnt mean you can't do your own thing and use some creativity once you've covered the yawn-worthy expectations...

+1 on what Steve said. You've done well enough given the circumstances. But it's just that the photos are quite standard and not very creative.

Weddings, regardless of how many attend them, are intimate and such personal events for the family that requires more than just "take the snapshot of what they did". You have to keep in mind the specialness and intimacy of that moment for the couple, hence, this is where you try to get your inspiration as far as how you want to capture the shots. Close shots of the couple are great, notice the little fleeting moments in their eyes, the little hand gestures and smiles, basically capture the details of why that day is so special for them. Proper composition is so important to this and they just can't all be centre shots. Get intimate, close in your lens on them, let us see their eyes, the little sweet gestures between them, etc. You get the drift.

The lighting is quite harsh on that third photo - the strong vignetting on the second and third photos really don't help. I don't mind the use of vignette and I use them, but not to re-frame the image to the extent that you've encircled the subjects with it. Also, they are too close to the wall and created harsh shadows on the wall. They have to be farter away from the wall or learn to bounce your flash or set up your lighting so that you don't get those harsh shadows.

Anyhoo, I hope I have helped somewhat. You may want to play aroudn with recropping your photos so that they are not always centred all the time, and also perhaps getting in on some tighter, closer shots of them.

Cheers,

Grace -

there s no way you can reshoot this. maybe some editing can 'save' it?
2 samples, if you don't mind.
