Default Headshot practice

Just practicing with some headshots...trying to find the sweet spot.

Just want to make sure the compostion in general is pleasing since ive always had a problem allowing wayyy to much headroom. Id also like some feedback if his expression/angle is conducive to an "acceptable" headshot.

rip it up!

Jeremy

Composition and framing seam OK to me... focus is spot on... the only thing I notice is a bit unnatural position of the arm, but you did not ask about that

Nice shot. It would be ideal to have either all rock or all grass so there isn't that difference. Minor point really. My other comment is more of a styling choice and is the less masculine downward angle. The positive side of the angle, the shot makes him look calm, gentle & approachable.

Looks really good! The intense green is a bit distracting though, maybe darken and tone down the saturation a tad?

I would draw his sholders back a bit since it looks like he's a fairly thin guy... it would give him more of a profile on this angle.

yes, hes VERY thin...i was always under the assumption that head shots are more "face forward" as opposed to profile..ill give it another shot.

So in this version..i simply darkened the background in hopes of bringing more focus to my subject...better? or no difference? i actually prefer the 1st choice

I'm a sucker for this type of portraiture so I really like this image.
I do, however, agree that his left arm is in an awkward position. Almost looks as if it's being twisted behind him.

Though it's not a big deal to me, I would consider getting the background to not have such contrasting elements (rocks vs. grass) especially when one of them creates a split in the background creating a line through his head.. but I'm being very picky.

Otherwise, great shot. I gotta say it made me so happy to see a really well thought out and exposed image in this part of the forum.. been a while.

Thanks again all!

i suggested to draw the shoulders back a bit since its bunching his jacket behind his neck. It doesn't look natural. Looks like he's shrugging forwards too much.
