Default Laundry Day with the locals

I shot this while in Sakleshpur, India. Because my zoom lens wasn't as strong as I would have liked, I had to crop the image some on my camera. I like the shot, but was wondering if it perhaps had a little too much contrast?

Any thoughts/suggestions/critiques would be greatly appreciated!

Focal length: 55 mm

Shot on a Nikon D5000

For my taste I would of just cropped just around the people, i think it would of had more impact that way..just my thought

Great shot, and I too would of cropped in just on the people as the surrounding landscape is a bit uninteresting. Or cropped it sideways to give it a pano effect. Otherwise nice capture!

To me this is a typical voyeuristic tourist shot. It would have been stronger if you moved closer, maybe even gotten in the water with them. At the very least, move down on the same elevation as them. That way there would be more sense of depth. If you were close, a shallower depth of field may have also let you feature some of the vivid clothing more. If the brown land and lake went softly out of focus, it would create a smooth background against which the clothing and people could pop.

Unfortunately getting in the water with them wasn't really an option. But I see where you are coming from. I'll go back and play around with it and see if I can blur the background.
