Can you supply us with your camera settings (exif) so we know what you had your exposure set on? Please and thank you

Hiya siteations,

Exposure looks ok but might be ok a bit brighter.

To me, it's the contrast that's off. Needs a lot more to help the subject pop out. If you're using LightRoom, try the Clarity slider.

Also, once contrast is boosted, have you considered this for a b&w conversion... it's a good candidate and may help with the mood of the image.

Also, composition is almost smack dab in the boring middle... consider cropping it to put the dude more to the lower left?

Still, nice shot.

Thanks BigFuzzy, I like the ideas, the cropped, lighter, higher contrast version really added something. I tried BW and liked it but liked the limited bit of color on the boat a little more.

BTW, later that afternoon I saw this guy:

Not you is it?

Well, it's an interesting shot...took me a second or two to realize the background was made of trees and not a grey cloud. I, too, think the little bit of color that is apparent is just enough...black and white could make it uninteresting, but worth a try. The contrast could definitely be boosted. Maybe some cropping on the left side of the picture just a little bit might help..hard to say..It's one of those photos that you need to just put in a "holding" file and think about what to do with...it's an odd shot and an interesting one most definitely. Do you know the person in the boat? I'm sure the family would appreciate the photo. It's one of those pics that can tell volumes about the individual in the boat, if you know the person. Good pic to take!

To me, lightening just the person - especially his face - would help quite a bit. We'd get to see a hint more detail in him while keeping the wonderful mood in the rest of the photo.

I agree with sarahle that this is an interesting photo that could be left alone for a while, and then viewed again with fresh eyes. Lots of possibilities with this photo.

Good work.

Sarahle and Chip, thanks for the ideas. No, I don't know the fisherman. But I really liked what I saw when I got a chance to look at it on my computer. I did crop some from the bottom left but perhaps not enough. It was my first day out with a new lens and I almost did not go out. I was not expecting this, I was thinking more of the sunrise. But the steam coming off the water and fisherman were a bonus.

Default Rule of Thirds for Impact

I love the feel to this image! It has big potential.

Also, crop the image using the rule of thirds for impact. Example on my blog:
http://barbgordonphotocoach.com/blog...s/ruleofthirds
Put the boat in lower left third and maybe make a slimmer image. Crop some foreground (maybe half) see what it looks like.

I love this pic!!!

It definately needs to be cropped it put him in the lower left corner as already stated, and the contrast needs to be increased to give it more ooomph!

But this is essentially a great capture
