The flare over your nipple is distracting. The lighting is good and the pose works to communicate angst. To show loneliness I think you would have to show the negative space you are looking into. Also, people that are depressed usually don't look up. They curl up and stare off into space at angles that are comfortable to their position. Also, you should show the eyes with the thousand mile stare. These are examples pulled from the web by searching the terms "depression, stare, thousand mile stare".

As I said, your picture conveyed the emotion of angst. An emotion of anguish, anxiety. I would have said from the photograph that you were upset over some situation or relationship that wasn't going the way you had desired.
You should leave the OP photograph as I am sure that others will have different opinions than mine. And we all grow as photographers from feedback. Good and bad, more from the bad parts being pointed out to us. Sometimes this hurts. The hurt if properly channeled will expand our understanding and cause our skills to become honed. This is what all great and want to be great photographers seek. So keep shooting and stretching and you will see growth. You have good skills. Jim |
