I took this shot of my granddaughter and am thinking of putting it on a canvas for her parents(along with another I have of her brother) Because I'm not yet proficent with PSE9 I had a friend PP it. While I'm pretty pleased with the shot I'm always open to any improvement suggestions. I think I've cut her head off a bit too much but unfortuantely the shot isn't cropped so I can't retrieve that. This was before I got into my camera workings seriously and would have been shot in Auto. Thanks for any help.

For me I like this shots, the DOF, the angle, the blue eyes...simply saying no further discussion, If the cropped head bothers you, let's see the uncropped version and compare which is much better.

Thanks for your quick response docxnoel, that's the problem(if it is one) this is the original- not cropped at all; "straight out of the camera".

I love this photo.

My only criticism would be that the green patch in the left corner (toy? cushion?) is majorly distracting. And I could see it coming out a ghastly colour on canvas depending on who you use to print. Maybe see if it's possible to clone the colour/texture from the upper right hand corner onto the green area?

You can just desaturate the green a little bit so it's not so bright and vibrant.

Great shot, I agree and what a lovely child!

Nice tip. I wouldn't have thought of that. But then I'm not great at PP

Hehe, I'm not that great at PP work either and only do the usual sharpness, saturation, contrast sort of adjustments on my Aperture. Anything beyond that like masking, etc, in Photoshop I'm completely useless.

I have a similar shot of my little one when she was a year and a half with her looking up and fake green grass all over the background so that's how I know to adjust the green. Although in my photo, I actually enhanced the green which made her pop more, funnily enough.

In this photo, though, the green is a little distracting, taking away the viewer's eye from her beautiful blue eyes so yes, I would desaturate the green. I don't think it would affect the rest of her photo, although watch out for the skin to make sure it doesn't change. If that happens, then it calls for masking so only that prominent green is only edited.

Thank you Bluebird & graciousness(or should that be Your Royal Graciousness in honour of today) for your comments. I'm new to PS too but I may well try my limited skills out on desaturating the green, you're right it is now jumping out at me

Of course everything is subjective, but I think desaturating the green would be a mistake. The strong primary colors are what really jump out at me and make this an interesting shot.
