Over easter we headed to Turkey beach, in QLD.
This was a rare moment when I caught my daghter off gaurd and didn't get the 'cheesy' grin I normally do from her! Pleace CC, I'm not sure if my B&W conversion made her too grey? http://www.flickr.com/photos/ekir78/...in/photostream Also my first time using Flikkr, couldn't find a dirtect message board link, so hope this works! |

Nope it didnt work. Click on the drop down arrow on the far right where it says actions. You'll see something that says says grab the html code. Pick the medium size (drop down at the bottom) copy that code and paste it into your post

I agree with Graciousness in saying that the black and white probably isn't doing the photo justice.
It have great focus and composition, however a general room with black and white photos is to have the blackest blacks and whitest whites in the photo, and while you have great whites the blacks are missing. And I wouldn't want to adjust the contrast because it would blow your whites out more. ] I think a colored photo would bring more life and fun to this great photo. |

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with B&W being a second rate choice. Even though I"m a big fan of B&W period, I still think it's a natural choice for this shot. Yes, colour might add some life to it, but it's also going to take it towards looking like a happy-snapshot. This has potentially, a timeless feel to it, and a it gets a much more classic edge in B&W.
That said, it's not a great conversion. Too muddy, which I think is drawing the ire of the previous respondents. Some work with a levels adjustment, add a little contrast, maybe some very gentle split toning in colour balance and something to distract from the blown background (i'd use a very gentle corner gradient to give some dimension) and this would be wonderful. You're also to be applauded for the composition and framing, which I really like.. maybe it was luck, but don't tell anyone

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your comments!
As a general rule, if you don't mind me asking, how do most of you convert to B&W? I did this image in CS3's B&W convert feature, which I think the results speak for them selves. ![]() I have read in a photoshop magazine that you can first convert to 16 or 32 bit (whcih I did) then use the channel mixer to convert, they also list three other processes that seem like a lot of steps when 'desaturate' in RAW will b&W!! But again, the results are ..bluegh. So what way do you all do?

[QUOTE=graciousness;1230868]Hi there,
What a great moment to capture! Congrats on eyeing it ![]() I. However, I think this would be better in colour as this beautiful girl is screaming for vibrancy esp in those eyes, as they are light and beautiful. Thank you Graciousness, Eliska does have really dark blue eyes, I love to photgraph them, but she is a typical 4 year old "Mum, take a photo of me doing this (dangles off a railing) BIG grin, you know the kiddie one? So I was happy to catch her off gaurd! |
