Default Father - communion preparation

Camera was set to automatic focus as this was during a church mass. Church goers were in an out of the picture so had take it or never.

I have not done any touch-up. I tried lighting/composition but the ‘end result’ was undesirable. Any critique or advice is greatly appreciated.

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture; f/5.6
Focal Length; 250 mm
ISO Speed; 400

I need help with lighting/composition without sacrificing the little sharpness that this picture has. The picture is a tad blurry probably because of my shaky hand and I did not bring a tripod. The ISO is too high?

Thank you.

I cloned out the string from the background and applied high pass. Anything else that could make this picture look nice? Any advice? Thanks.

I know you said you had to catch this shot while people weren't in your way, but there are some composition issues, IMHO. The post on the left adds nothing. By moving more to the right, you could get rid of that distraction, and you'd get the added bonus of not cutting off the priest's back. You've also cropped the top of his head. I think you could move up just enough to keep his head in and not lose the table.

The color isn't bad, maybe just a bit lacking in contrast. Search this forum for "curves adjustment" or "levels adjustment" (levels being easier, but not as flexible as curves) and you should find a good tutorial that would show you how you could punch this image up some.

Thank you for your advice, comment, and time. :-)

This is the only photo of the priest that I have without other people around him. I was so excited that the priest was finally alone that I did not even consider not cropping his back and head. I will work on the curves or levels adjustment and will post a new one thereafter. Thank you.
