gorgeouskate

My flatmate and I did an impromptu photoshoot the other day, and I absolutely love the photos, I'm just not sure about this B/W conversion - what do you guys think?

EXIF:

ISO 800
Flash: off/ did not fire
Sony a550

I love it! I think The black and white works very well for this kind of shot.

A. Kate is hawt.. lucky you to have her as a model.
B. Though, in general I like the image as it's an good and different perspective (most here ignore that!) and there's a nice connection with the model, it all feels a bit flat to me. Try punching up the highlights a bit maybe? Maybe it's my monitor, but it just all feels a bit grey.

C. Selective coloring. Hate it. Feels sooo cheesy to me personally. Having said that, I also experimented with it when first starting out. Most people do, so it's part of most people's learning curve. Just know that, to me at least, when I see that I think "aw, how cute, they've just learned a bit of PP".

Otherwise, it's a nice effort, keep posting (especially of Kate!) /perv

Very nice photo. I agree with the comments on selective coloring. It used to be cool ... Having said that, the frame, the pose and the perspective in this image are great.

I think selective colouring is in the eye of the beholder. If you like it - then use it. I think what you did looks fine. Old hat is for those who wish it to be old hat.I think there's always a place for everything in photography - don't shy away from what you might like because of a few detractors. It's all subjective imo. Again, nice work.

Thank you guys for the comments

In regards to selective colour, I just wanted to bring her eyes out a little, and thought I had managed to find a middle ground between "Ewh, selective colour" and it not being TOO noticeable ... obviously I got snapped xD

Maybe this is why it looked a litle off to me. I'm gunna try and print it up to see how it prints and maybe fix it.

And yes, I agree. Kate is stunning <3
