Exclamation B&W Portrait [First post, portrait shoot]

A portrait shoot I did with one of my friends, this is the outcome of one of the shots that I edited.

Used a black muslin backdrop, hair light, no flash, used a continuous light source instead.

Not going to lie, I'm a noob so I had a hard time defocussing the background to all black even with a small aperture. Tried many different apertures, shutter speed, moving lights around etc.. So I ended up just retouching the image with high contrast/b&w instead.

Tips? Comments? Does it look like I know what I'm doing? haha..

Nice idea, pretty model, good pose. But she's not in focus. Focusing on her eyes would have made a big difference. Also a few spots need removing. Otherwise I like it!

I've purchased some studio lighting, backdrops, triggers etc and waiting for the opportunity to set it up in our small house. So I'm not really in a position to critique your work. But it's a learning process and your photo has helped me. I guess that's why we come here. Keep it up

Oh and add your EXIF data if you can so others might help.

Thanks for the reply, I took many photos to try and perfect my lighting but unfortunately many did not turn out good. I just took a handful of the decent ones that I could edit afterwards to give my artistic feel to it.

I recently got this studio kit but unfortunately I don't have much room for moving lights around or moving myself/model around so it was a kind of an eye opener for me. I guess with time I will be able to perfect my home studio techniques.

Also, I was under the impression that the exif data will still be attached to the image. If I am to edit in CS5, does the exif data get lost? If so, how do I prevent/attach it?

Thanks

Read this in reference to the EXIF data and it might help.
