Ive been reading everything I can and shooting alot. Ive made loads of mistake and am leaning by them. your opinion of where im going right/wrong would be appriciated x

What you got right:
The composition works and her expression is good. Using the sun for some hair/rim lighting was well done (whether you intended that or not). The background is not too distracting and is nicely thrown out of focus. And you got down closer to her level for the angle of the shot. What hurts the image: The black and white treatment is very flat and dull. Adding some brightness, contrast, and slight vignetting would seal the deal. I'm not convinced that this is a b/w type shot however. I'd really like to see the color version. The grass is lit nicely and therefore should pop well in the shot. Seeing your daughter's skin tones would really help this as well I think as well as seeing some color in the towel (assuming it's a colored towel). I'm thinking expressing some golden tones overall to help out the "setting" and this would be a nice color photo. Hope that helps. |

Hi Kevin
Thanks for your reply. I can definatley see what you mean about the flatness, and to be honest I only put it in B/W because of the towel its an old one because we were outside lol. I went back and re-done one in color and touched up the B/W Im using lightroom to edit but dont really know what all the functions do but im learning. I had used some vignetting but im a little scared of it its a fine line before it looks like a dodgy 80s wedding album lol. what editing program do you use? (if anyone could recomend a book on editing i would appriciate it) |
