Hi, I've been shooting for a while and consider myself an enthusiast photographer, in the last few months I made the transition from Auto to Aperture, then P' mode and now I'm shooting in Manual mode, it was pretty scary for me at first but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'm hoping that you guys will take the time to look at my shots and kindly comment and critique my photographs. Please don't hold back and tell me what is good or bad and how I can improve

Hi Ana,
Don't want to come across as gruff or rude, in fact I want to welcome you to DPS, but could you do us a favor and read the Critique Section rules, particularly the part about one photo per day and just chose one image to post? Also, try to be a bit more specific on your question instead of the "what do you think" sort of thing. I'd be happy to give it as full a critique as possible after that. This way you choose the one you want displayed instead of the Mods who're likely to edit your post for you to reduce the number of images.

The composition on this image is fine. It's nothing unique, but it's well done.
The photo is lacking something that's not glaringly obvious, however. I was trying to put my finger on it and what I've come up with is: 1. The model is beautiful, but boring. The boringness comes from three things: the pose, the lighting, and the model herself. The lighting is flat, which can be fine but just isn't working for this picture. 2. The background is distracting. 3. Everything is a tad soft. 4. It's a tad on the orange side, which I'm not a fan of. Everything else is fine...I think this picture just needed a more "edgy" approach. Last edited by kevingeary; 04-08-2011 at 05:02 PM. |

Overall I like the shot. I think the composition is good, the exposure is good & the focus is good. I don't like the 2 brown bars on the right side, maybe you could clone them out in PP.
Other than that nice capture. Keep shooting. Dave

It might just be my monitor but her face and neck really come across orange ande her arm and hand have a more natural color.

Hi Ana & welcome
![]() Very pretty & shapely model. The focus is a little soft on her eyes. If you could have been on a level with her (was that possible?) then the arched frame behind her would have 'framed' her perfectly. It would have also moved the catchlights in her eyes higher and helped her connection with the camera. However, shooting up at her and her pose, does make her look like a very confident and self assured woman imo. She is very slim, but if the chin bothers her you could always liquify it

Some very good observations and suggestions have already been made, so I won't say much.
What bothers me most is the light that is reflected in her eyes. The catchlights cover almost the entire iris, preventing a strong connection between the model and the viewer. Clear, sharp eye contact is everything!
