Default Grandma's Hand

I saw a shot the other day on DPS of an old man and I think it was his grandson and he passed away later that night, it was a beautiful shot.

My mom was over and I tried to do the same type of shot without her knowing (she doesn't like her hands). I take pictures for myself to document my kids and I enjoy it thoroughly, but I would like to do it well : )

Is the shot too dark? Is the hand too blurry? Is the shot too close?

In my opinion, the shot is a bit on the dark side, however, not too dark. I think your DOF is right on... love the composition.... great keepsake for sure.

IMO It is a tad bit too dark but I love this either way.

Possibly too dark. I would try lightening the whole image a little. I always find it difficult to get light levels right with skin texture like that because you find you lose the very thing you meant to capture.

Perhaps use a curve to push a little at the bright end?

I agree...here was a different angle (don't know why I didn't use this one) and it seems much brighter. Thanks for your input I truly appreciate it!

The second shot is my favorite. You have captured such a precious moment!

I like the first one best. It looks good to me. It doesn't need words to accompany it but what the heck.

Both are beautiful, but I like the first one more. It is softer and the position is better to me. I wish my grandparents were still around to do this. Jim
