Beside the sky being severely over exposed and the man slightly out of focus it appears the camera is tilted to the left.
I fee that a tilt is ok if it is intentional, in other words it is tilted a lot. however if it just a bit like this one then maybe that is why it feels weird.

Hi KJ and welcome to the forum!
I agree with RT, the sky is a little overexposed, you could probably fix this in post processing though. The recovery tool in Lightroom is great for this. Personally, to me the angle of the camera looks good, as is shown by the vertical bar of the railings on the left. The overall pic gives me the impression of someone taking a minute to embrace the morning sun, so that works for me. Composition wise, I think I would have moved a bit more to the right and taken the shot from 45 degrees, simply to show a bit more of the chaps features and take advantage of the natural light on his face. As it is now, if you can sort out the sky a little and maybe even crop the pic just between his elbow and shoulder, you may get a more pleasing image. The telegraph pole in the centre could have done without being there, but that's there now. The image could also possibly work in landscape if you cropped the sky and below his shoulder, making it more of a closer study of him. (although if he's not in focus that could extenuate it). Just a little food for thought.

I agree that the angle is nice and does lend itself to 'looking to the sun'.
Maybe a polarizing filter would help with the blown out sky while keeping the chap exposured nicely? I would also have gone with a lower aperature number if available, but i do love my shallow depth of field.. Good shot though, its got a nice feeling to it. |
