Default long haul

A Long Haul

Camera Canon EOS 500D
Exposure 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture f/16.0
Focal Length 55 mm
ISO Speed 100
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

Is this picture dynamic enough? Did it convey the meaning of the title? I have read somewhere here in DPS that there should be a ground when taking pics of people, but it only showed on the third man and the one walking further in front of them. Should I have taken the shot in front of those workers? Critique please...

While not qualified in this area, it looks dynamic to me, and walking very far at all with a carrying a cement block like that, on your head, would definitely make it seem long. It made me look forward and ask two questions; (a) what was around the bend on the path and (b) why wasn't the guy in the front carrying a block? I figure maybe he was the supervisor.

The other aspect I like about it is the strong colors and dynamic range from pure white to jet black.

hello, CJ. this is one of the reasons why i was kept away from DPS. whew! not the picture, but the field work. hahahah!!!

beyond that bend is more dirt road, and a make-shift bridge made of 4 tied bamboo poles which we have to cross and then more dirt road to walk on. it's indeed a long haul to the project site. the man walking ahead is the project engineer.

it was a fine but hot day. and if you notice the color of the sky, i got a CPL, as per your advice. thanks again, my friend.

That additional bit of information about what lies ahead beyond the bend is very helpful to my imagination in processing this image and its title.

And as for the guy walking way ahead unemcumbered, well, I guess that's why it pays to study engineering; their brains become so valuable that they can't take the chance of carrying a concrete block on their heads; Even if they are as young, able-bodied as anyone else, if not moreso, as appears to be the case here.

I admire you for the extra effort of putting your concrete block down long enough to take this picture, and then having to pick it back up again to continue on that long haul

front or back.. it does create a different story.. Just my oppinion.. I do feel a landscape orientation is better and reagarding the colors. I prefer bnw in photography, so to me.. it seems too dynamic.. (sky too blue, trees too green) > but that's your presentation..

thanks for your comments, Wal. some adjustments in saturation, maybe.
