Default fun in the grass

My kids and I were playing in the front yard and I got this shot. I really like this but I had to crop out his foot. I his foot still in the image too much? His face seems to be a little overexposed to me? Any other criticism is appreciated.

hi blake... imho
#1 i like the expression too... seems genuine but why your decision to crop the foot?
#2 it's either too much or too little... the foot shows context... right now i'm wondering why is he bent like that... i think i like there to be more foot in fact...
#3 not on my screen... i think it's fine... but i have the impression it's a bit blurry... unsure if its the motion blur or slightly out of focus... i'm guessing it's the former... a bit of sharpening can help it
#4 why the portrait crop? have you tried landscape crop or square? seems like lots of grass on the lower half...

I love the candidness of this photo - I have a child and know how difficult it is to take such shots when around children. I think you managed to capture the playfulness quite well, albeit short of a great composition.

I also agree, too, that the photo could have been included in the shot to show the full scene. The viewer almost feels bereft of fun of the scenario having been cropped as is, but then again, you had to make a quick decision in the spur of the moment and can't regret too much.

I don't think it's over exposed - maybe it looks different in your monitor?

Whilst I love negative space and I love the green grass, there may be a little bit too much of it because your son has been chopped a little bit. I don't know, though, perhaps I'm inclined to leave the crop as is as it indicates the spur of such a lovely moment..........

I would play around with the crop, perhaps, and make it a little tighter (less grass)? It's all up to you and see if you may prefer it this way. In the end, you are the one who needs to be happy with the shot.

I think, next time, perhaps take your chance in capturing more of the scene and you can always crop it later. Better to have more of the subject to play around with, than regret having not included part of it that you can't revisit and re-shot. This is what I've learned in my experience anyway.....I've had plenty of photos where I cropped too much during shot and kicking myself later for it.

@tyasa81 -
#1The reason I cropped the foot originally was because I thought that it would be too distracting.
#2 He is bent like that because he is on his back on the ground with his feet up and me standing over him.
#3 It is probably a little blurry because of motion blur and out of focus. I have been trying very hard to make sure I get everything in focus but it is very hard with children.
#4 I actually took the picture portrait style.

@graciousness - thank you for your comments. I did crop out some of the grass, I think you are correct about there being too much.

Thank you all for your comments. I have cropped it a little differently. Let me know what you think.
