I recently saw the silhouette thread here and thought I'd give it a try. I was getting close but the girls were getting cold and complaining to go home. I exposed for the brightest part of the sky but I still kept getting color exposed on the clothing. How do I get that total black silhouette? Other than that what do you think of the composition? Any other comments to help are welcome.

nice attempt.
![]() to get the totally black silouette you can mess with the levels a bit, or increase the contrast. i'd go so far as to use the burn tool on the blacks, and add a low opacity "Multiply" layer to the sky.

First off, I like that it is not totally blacked out and that you have some subtle detail. But if you are going for totally blacked out it would help to have the subjects not were a white top. I have this problem all the time. What people are wearing will dictate what images you can get out of the session.

Hmmm....this looks quite black in my imac....I guess different calibration depending on what system we use?
Great shot, by the way! I actually love it....sorta bringing out the catholic romanticism in me..... Cheers and yes, learn PS! It's not easy, but it's worth the time and effort, I think. |

you could probably download picasa, which is free i believe, and just push the shadows slider to get the effect you want. you can also desaturate if you don't want any color, though i kind of like it the way you have it.
i know you didn't ask about this, but i think this would make a great long and narrow cropped photo- take out some of the ground and some of the sky and have the girls at one of the vertical 1/3 lines and the cross at the other. i like it a lot, btw. how on earth did you get kids to cooperate? mine would be rolling down the hill or something. |

In flickr, you have some basic editing capabilites. Click on your picture, at the top click on actions, one of the options will be edit your photo in Picnik. You should be able to darken the photo there, and also do a crop, which in my opinion, will create a better overall composition. Hope this helps
