I took this shot last night and I'm pretty happy with it, but I wish it had less noise. I probably could have gotten away with a longer exposure and wider aperture, but I really didn't want the subject to move during the shot.

I think it looks great, at least at this resolution I can't really discern any noisy areas. Nice capture!

I guess the question I'm getting at was if the noise was ok in this photo, I was shooting at ISO 800 which is pretty high for an entry level DSLR like my XS and I wasn't sure if I would have been better off using a lower ISO and compensating with a smaller aperture or longer exposure. This is one of my first forays into night photography and I'm wary of noise so just curious if it's acceptable for a photo like that or not. |

Lower ISO = less noise, and in a shot like this where you are almost drawing the viewer to a really crisp past of an image then I think you should have used a much lower ISO.
However apart from that its an excellent and creative picture and the higher ISO by no means ruins it.

I really like the composition here. Though the subject is centered, the railing and wall load the lower left corner and give it something extra.
I don't think the noise is that big of a deal at all.. it needs the texture the grain provides, and sits well with the high contrast feel. The thing that I would point out though is that it feels like you blew the highlights to a certain extent on the models left. It could stand to be burned down a little in PP, otherwise you're losing some delineating elements of the pose at first glance. |
